What is the OBD Programmer?
The OBD Programmer is a simple plug-and-play device designed to apply supported vehicle features and configuration changes without requiring a laptop, Forscan or programming experience.
Where applicable, it can also restore the changes it has made, returning the affected settings to the values they had before the programmer changed them.
This can be useful if you want to temporarily or permanently revert the changes, including before dealer servicing or warranty work.
Do I need Forscan or a laptop?
No.
The OBD Programmer is completely standalone. You don't need a laptop, Forscan, an OBD adapter or programming experience.
How does the OBD Programmer work?
When first connected, the programmer checks the vehicle to determine which of its supported settings require a change.
If a setting requires changing, the programmer saves the existing value where required for its Restore function before applying the change.
If the required setting is already present, the programmer skips it.
Where applicable, connecting the programmer again will restore the changes it previously made.
How long does programming take, and does the programmer stay connected?
Most programming operations only take a few minutes.
Leave the programmer connected until it confirms that the operation has completed, then remove it from the OBD-II port and keep it somewhere safe.
You will need the same programmer if you later want to restore or reapply its supported features.
Vehicle Compatibility
Which vehicles are supported?
Compatibility depends on the individual OBD Programmer purchased.
Always check the compatibility information on the relevant product page before ordering.
Compatibility may depend on the vehicle model, variant, model year, factory equipment and existing vehicle configuration.
Does the programmer add hardware that my vehicle doesn't have?
No.
The programmer changes supported vehicle settings. It cannot physically add sensors, modules, switches or other hardware that isn't fitted to the vehicle.
Vehicle Locking
Can I use the programmer on another vehicle?
No.
Once the programmer has been used on a vehicle, it becomes permanently locked to that vehicle.
If you sell the vehicle, we recommend leaving the programmer with it so the new owner can restore or reapply the supported features where applicable.
Forscan & Existing Changes
What happens if I've already made changes using Forscan?
The programmer checks whether the settings required for its supported features are already present.
If a required change has already been made using Forscan, the programmer skips that setting. It does not back up, overwrite or restore that existing change.
Unrelated Forscan changes are also left alone.
If you have known Forscan changes that you would like returned to factory settings, contact us for a custom programming solution.
Restore
Can I undo the changes made by the programmer?
Where applicable, yes.
Simply connect the same programmer to the same vehicle again.
The applicable settings changed by the programmer are returned to the values saved before those changes were made.
Does Restore return my entire vehicle to factory settings?
No.
Restore is not a complete vehicle factory reset.
Where applicable, it reverses the changes actually made by the OBD Programmer and returns those settings to their previously saved values.
Settings that the programmer did not change are left alone.
When would I use Restore?
Restore can be useful whenever you want to revert the applicable changes made by the programmer, including:
· Before dealer servicing or warranty work
· Before selling the vehicle
· When troubleshooting another vehicle issue
· If you simply want to return the affected features to their previous settings
Restoring before dealer servicing or warranty work is generally not required, but the option is available if you prefer to revert the programmer's changes beforehand.
Can I Restore and then reapply the features later?
Where applicable, yes.
After restoring, simply connect the same programmer again when you want to reapply its supported features.
Dealer Servicing & Vehicle Updates
Can dealer work affect my programmed features?
Potentially.
Some dealer work or vehicle updates may alter vehicle settings.
If a supported feature is removed or changed, the OBD Programmer can generally be used to reapply it where applicable.
Returns & Refunds
Can I return the programmer after using it?
Change-of-mind returns cannot be accepted once the programmer has been used on a vehicle.
Eligible unused programmers may be returned in accordance with our Returns Policy.
Troubleshooting
What should I do if programming or Restore doesn't complete?
Do not repeatedly disconnect and reconnect the programmer in an attempt to force the process.
Contact our support team with details of what occurred, including any warning messages displayed by the vehicle.
Photos or video can also be useful when diagnosing a problem.
What information should I provide when contacting support?
- Vehicle model, year and variant
- OBD Programmer purchased
- Any previous Forscan changes you are aware of
- A description of what occurred
- Any warning messages or lights displayed by the vehicle
- Photos or video where applicable
Warranty
Does the OBD Programmer have a warranty?
Yes.
OBD Programmers include a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects.
If you experience a problem, contact our support team with your order and vehicle details.
